Phase 1 – Discovery
It was an unusually cold spring night in Nuremberg, I was sipping hot coffee in the balcony. That was when I spotted the huge green glow in the sky. My excitement as well as wonder knew no bounds. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, or thought I was seeing, the green glimpse of Aurora! I ran downstairs and on to the pavement, looked at it from all possible angles. It was huge, right over my head. I walked and walked, it was omnipresent. I sincerely believed that it was Aurora. My joy was beyond measure.
Phase 2 – Gaze in a daze
Having failed to get a booking for aurora sightings that year, I thanked my luck, fate, universe and everything else that came to my mind, that I could witness this phenomenon. That night I spent quite some time walking and some more time in the balcony, gazing at the green glow. I had a blissful sleep.
Phase 3 – Reality strikes
The next day, I looked up on the internet about Aurora sightings in Nuremberg. Surprisingly, I could not see a single news post. I narrated the entire incident to my german colleagues at office and that was when the bubble of my ignorance burst.
Possible explanations for the green glow in the sky
According to my colleagues, the green glow in the sky was definitely not Aurora. It was quite impossible for Aurora to appear on a spring night sky, so far away from the North. The possible explanations for the source of the green light could be:
- Weather balloons
- Slow moving zeppelins
- Intense light projected from a source on the ground
- May be alien space ship, who knows!
Phase 4 – Acceptance
The explanation made sense and sure, my heart did break a little. When I think about that cold spring night, I still feel happy. The momentary joy the green glow in the sky brought me was priceless. It will be etched in my memory for ever, or may be, till I witness the real Aurora!
