I Pray for Rain

Rain, rain go away,
come again another day!
This is what I had learnt as a toddler,
But personally, I had a different poem to rhyme.

I have loved rain all my life,
I would eagerly wait for monsoon to arrive,
my reasons have been different at different phases of my life.

I pray for rain so that I can make paper boats and set them afloat.

As a child, I would pray for rain,
so that I can make paper boats,
set them afloat,
and watch them drift hither and thither,
in the gushing muddy waters.
keeping the boat afloat was an accomplishment,
inducing a sense of pride and contentment.

As a teenager, I would pray for rain,
so that I can dance, drenched and insane,
Looking at the cold that would ensue,
My mother would sternly say, “What did i tell you?”

A little older, I would pray for the rain,
so that I can relish piping hot samosas with chai,
feeling extremely content, by and by.

As a young adult, I would pray for rain,
so that I can go for a walk with my lover hand in hand,
or may be on a misty bike ride with my hair flying high,
dearly cherishing the moment with my guy.

Now, I pray for rain,
so that I can keep to myself.
With a cup of coffee in hand,
a few relationships to mend,
and a handful of worries to attend,
I relive the memories from my past,
peace in the chaos I find at last.
